Summary of the Lore of King of Rings
Veyra was once a complete and stable world governed by five ancient artifacts known as the Rings of Veyra: the Ring of Might, the Ring of Aegis, the Ring of Vitality, the Ring of Velocity, and the Ring of Arcana. These Rings were not ordinary sources of power, but fundamental forces that shaped reality itself. Might governed strength and combat, Aegis governed protection and endurance, Vitality governed life and healing, Velocity governed speed and movement, and Arcana governed balance, restoration, and the harmony between all other Rings. Together, they formed the foundation of Veyra’s stability and ensured that no single force could dominate existence.
Â
The world was governed by the Council of Veyra, a ruling body composed of wise kings from across the lands. Each king ruled their own realm and served within the Council to maintain balance across Veyra. Beneath them existed the Wardens of Veyra, elite heirs chosen from each land. These Wardens were not always the children of the kings, but carefully selected successors destined to inherit both the throne of their respective realm and the responsibility of one of the Rings. They were trained to preserve the future of Veyra’s balance and ensure continuity between generations of rule.
Â
Among these Wardens was Rion Vey. Rion was a Warden originating from the Shattered Expanse, the realm tied to the Ring of Arcana. Unlike many others, he was not driven by ambition but by understanding. Growing up within a land already fractured and unstable, he developed a deeper awareness of imbalance within the world’s systems. As he studied the Rings and the structure of the Council, he began to see signs that the balance of Veyra was beginning to fail. He foresaw that one among them would eventually reject the system entirely and attempt to seize power for themselves. Rion warned the Council of Veyra of this danger, but his concerns were dismissed. The Council of wise kings believed their structure and unity made betrayal impossible.
Â
That betrayal came from one of their own, Gorrock, King of Shadow. Once part of the system that upheld Veyra’s balance, Gorrock grew resentful that he did not possess a Ring of his own. Over time, this resentment became obsession. He rejected the idea that power should be shared or inherited and came to believe it should belong to a single will. When he was denied a Ring, he turned against the Council of Veyra and began to pursue control over the Rings themselves.
Â
As Gorrock acted, Rion Vey moved quickly. Though he held no authority within the Council, he succeeded in securing four of the five Rings before they could be destroyed or corrupted. These became the Ring of Might, the Ring of Aegis, the Ring of Vitality, and the Ring of Velocity. Rion removed them from immediate danger and hid them across Veyra, ensuring they would survive as trials for future generations.
Â
The fifth Ring, the Ring of Arcana, could not be preserved in time. Gorrock feared Arcana above all others, not because it was destructive, but because it represented restoration and balance. Arcana held the power to strengthen and reconnect all Rings, restoring harmony where it had been broken. To prevent this, Gorrock shattered the Ring of Arcana and scattered its fragments across Veyra, sealing them within dungeons, ruins, and forgotten places, many of which lie within or near the Shattered Expanse.
Â
From the collapse of this system, Gorrock achieved his final ambition. He gathered the essence of the Rings and forged a dark artifact known as the Amulet of Darkness. This artifact unified and controlled the underlying systems of reality itself, allowing him to reshape Veyra according to his will. The world did not survive unchanged. Veyra fractured into separate realms, each reflecting instability and separation from the original balance. At its center remained Veyra Crossroads, the last stable point where paths between the broken worlds still converge.
Â
The realms of Veyra are directly tied to the ancient powers they once reflected. Ironfall resonates with the Ring of Might, Voidborn with the Ring of Aegis, Aethervale with the Ring of Vitality, Tidefall with the Ring of Velocity, and the Shattered Expanse with the Ring of Arcana. The Ash Kingdom stands apart, ruled directly through the influence of the Amulet of Darkness rather than any Ring, representing control over the system itself rather than balance within it. The Ash Kingdom is the domain of Gorrock, a land of eternal flame and ruin shaped by the Amulet of Darkness. It stands as both the culmination of his ambition and the lasting consequence of Veyra’s fracture.
Â
Veyra now exists in a state of imbalance. The Rings remain scattered across the world, Arcana lies shattered within the Shattered Expanse and beyond, and the Amulet of Darkness governs from the Ash Kingdom. The world waits for those who will uncover its lost power, not only to grow stronger, but to decide whether Veyra will remain broken or one day be restored to its original harmony.
